YOUNGSTOWN Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) thanked 13 public university presidents on Wednesday for responding to his letter urging them to protect their Jewish students from antisemitism.

In early September of 2025, Moreno sent letters to the presidents of Ohio's 14 public universities, urging them to take action. As of September 24, 13 schools have responded so far, including Youngstown State University (YSU).

Moreno said the rise of antisemitism in higher education is unacceptable and praised university leaders for detailing how they plan to ensure campuses remain safe for all students.

YSU responded in a letter to Senator Moreno on the changes and policies the university has implemented to protect Jewish students on campus.

The university said it has updated its discrimination policy to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism and added a policy ensuring religious accommodations for students.

Additionally, YSU also provides harassment response training for staff and allows community members to file complaints anonymously. YSU added that it maintains 24/7 police coverage with officers trained in hate crime response.

Central State University is the only institution that has not yet replied to Senator Moreno.
