YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown CityScape is collaborating with several partners to renovate the garden bunker at the intersection of East Federal and Champion streets in downtown Youngstown.
The nonprofit community development organization is working with Enbridge Gas Ohio, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, and the City of Youngstown to rebuild and replant the flower beds and garden space.
CityScape Executive Director Sharon Letson emphasized the importance of partnerships for the project.
"We are excited to move forward with partners on this project in the heart of downtown," Letson said. "All the project partners are focused on reimagining this corner, providing new space for flowers and trees, and are eager to give downtown our love, care, and attention."
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department has begun initial work, removing overgrown trees and shrubs to prepare the area for new plantings.
On Friday, Oct. 10, CityScape staff will join volunteers from Enbridge Gas Ohio and a team from the Regional Chamber to complete the planting. The day’s work will include adding new trees, shrubs, and flowers to the site.
Letson noted the positive effects of such projects on the area. "Creating a refreshed garden bunker lifts spirits, helps support downtown businesses, and has a positive impact on our larger community," she said.
Youngstown CityScape is a non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of the downtown area.
