GIRARD - The City of Girard is actively working to find a solution after residents reported an influx of stray cats in certain neighborhoods.
First Ward Councilman Keith Schubert tells 21 News he's heard concerns from various sections of the Parkwood neighborhood, as well as the end of Prospect Steet about an influx of stray cats roaming around.
Schubert says there are "easily 20 cats" in the area of Prospect Street in particular, and that the issue is likely due to people feeding the cats, causing them to reproduce and creating a "domino effect."
Girard Mayor Mark Zuppo, along with Safety Service Director Mark Ragozine have been working with Trumbull County to find a solution to the problem.
Councilman John Moliterno tells 21 News in addition to speaking with the county, the two have spoken with the Animal Resource Center (ARC) in Cortland, as well as the Steel Valley Spay & Neuter Clinic right in Girard to see if they could help.
Moliterno says no solution has been finalized at this time.
