New Details on Fatal Brookfield Crash

There are new details about a crash in Brookfield involving an on-duty police officer that killed one man and injured his wife and three children.

O-S-P has identified the deceased as 35-year-old John Freeland, Junior.  His wife, Tina, is in critical condition.  Their three children are all in satisfactory condition.

The Freeland's were traveling north on Bedford Road Wednesday evening, when their mini-van collided with a Brookfield Police cruiser traveling west on Route 82.  After striking the cruiser, the van struck a utility pole.

Twenty-six-year-old police officer Aaron Kasiewicz was driving the cruiser, and police say a witness believes he had the right-of-way.

Lt. Joe Dragovich of Warren OSP says, "The witness that was driving behind him.  We asked him if he had pursuit lights on so there's no indication that he was responding to anything or running hot to anything.  He was just driving down State Route 82 approaching an intersection."

Kasiewicz remains in guarded condition at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
