A strike threat still looms over Thomas Steel in Warren as workers prepare to vote on the company's latest proposal.

Members of United Steel Workers Local 3523 learned about the offer during two informational meetings Thursday.

Union leaders are not endorsing the proposal, saying it contains too many concessions.

"It's the whole proposal, it's a concessionary contract and we feel their jumping on the band wagon of two-tier, cutting medical costs and we feel it's unwarented," says USW Local 3523 President Michael Boyle.

The local's 275 members will formally vote on the proposal Monday. A contract extension expires at midnight Monday.

If the offer is rejected, union leaders say they are willing to continue negotiations, or go on strike, depending upon the company's response.
