Warren man suspected of shooting at police officers in 2023 indicted

WARREN A suspect who is believed to be the masked man who fired shots at Warren police officers in 2023 has been indicted.
According to the indictment, 21-year-old Davonte McElroy has been indicted on two counts each of attempted murder and felonious assault, all with firearm specifications, as well as one count of tampering with evidence.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred near the corner of Austin Avenue and Ward Street in October of 2023 where police say two detectives were driving in the area and a man in a black mask and red hood ran down a driveway and fired several shots at them.
Police believe McElroy to be the one behind that attack.
Police later obtained a search warrant of the house where the incident happened and found the mask and hood on the kitchen floor.
It wasn't until July of 2024 that McElroy was found and arrested on a warrant in Columbus.
Court records show McElroy is set to be arraigned July 9.
