Valley health clinics receive more than $4 million
Community health centers in Ohio's 17th and 6th Congressional districts will are set to receive more than $4 million in federal stimulus money.
Congressman Tim Ryan announced that two clinics in the 17th district will receive Recovery Act Capital Improvement grants.
Ohio North East Health System's Community Health Clinic in Youngstown will get $880,910.
Akron Community Health Resources Community Health Clinic will get $520,060.
Ryan said these funds are important to preserving clinics, which he said serve a vital function.
"Community Health Clinics have an enormous impact on their communities - they employ physicians, dentists, nurses and medical staff - beyond the outstanding services they provide to patients, a good number of whom are the uninsured," Ryan said in a news release.
The money is part of $851 million in stimulus money for the immediate needs of local health centers around the country.
The 6th district will receive $2,758,890, which will go to four health centers.
The Community Action Agency of Columbiana will receive $600,105.
The Ironton Lawrence County Community Action Organization is expecting $665,660.
Ohio Hills Health Services in Barnesville will get $473,860.
The largest portion of the money, $1,019,265, will go to Chillicothe-based Family Healthcare to build a new health care center in Meigs County.
Representative Charlie Wilson said the centers need the money in order to maintain the level of service they provide.
"These funds will help ensure that our community health centers can continue to offer their important services efficiently and effectively, " Wilson said in a news release.
