Four-year-old hit by line-drive at Scrappers game
A four-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a foul ball hit him in the head at a Mahoning Valley Scrappers game Wednesday night.
The boy was sitting along the first base line when a ball hit by a left-handed batter hit him in the head during the second game of Wednesday night's doubleheader.
He was rushed to St. Elizabeth's hospital.
Scrappers management said he was transferred to Akron Children's hospital, where he is in a medically induced coma after head surgery.
Scrappers manager Travis Fryman said the incident has affected everyone on the team.
"You cringe every time a ball's hit in the stands. I did as a player. As a manager you pray nobody gets hit. You see it frequently," Fryman said.
He said fans should always be aware of the ball at all times, and urges adults to sit between the batter and their children to act as a buffer.
