Mahoning commissioners meet for first time since indictments

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- Commissioner John McNally was in attendance at the Mahoning county commissioners' meeting Thursday morning, despite having been indicted as part of the public corruption probe surrounding the county's purchase of the Oakhill Renaissance Center.
This was the first time commissioners have met since the indictments were handed down late last week.
McNally is accused of conspiring to block the county's purchase of the Oakhill building in order to keep the department of jobs and family services in the McGuffey Plaza on Garland Avenue for the benefit of the Cafaro family.
He has said he has no intention of stepping down while he fights the charges in court.
Commissioner Anthony Traficanti said he does not expect the case to affect county business.
"We have to deal with the recession. We have to deal with the economy and I'm not going to allow this distraction to bring me down in any way in performing my duties as commissioner," Traficanti said.
McNally is facing 11 charges in the case.
