Foul odor at Oakhill Renaissance Place attributed to decomposing bodies in the morgue
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Some employees at the Oakhill Renaissance Place building say a foul odor forced them to go home sick from work. It happened on Tuesday and Thursday of last week.
The smell is being attributed to decomposing bodies that are awaiting autopsy in the morgue.
That's prompting the coroner's office to change when some autopsies are conducted. "They are going to start autopsies later in the day, which if there's going to be a problem, most of the employees, if not all of the employees, will be out of the building. I know they do a number of autopsies down there, but since the agency has been there, this is only the second time this has happened. So it's not a reoccurring problem, but we are dealing with the issue anyway," said Robert Bush from Jobs and Family Services.
Currently, the building is undergoing renovations which will include new insulation and a new ventilation system.
