BJ Alan Company moving
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - An old Delphi building is getting a spark of new life from a Valley business.
BJ Alan Company is moving its main offices and some of its warehousing from Youngstown to the empty building in Howland.
BJ Alan is exploding out of its current location on MLK Boulevard in Youngstown. Right now the company is forced to divide its offices between two buildings and five trailers. And their lack of warehousing space creates a huge problem. They have 25-thousand square feet of indoor space but that's not nearly enough. So they use these 800 trailers to store product.
BJ Alan Vice President Bill Weimer says, "It's just an impossible situation. We can not continue our growth patterns being hamstrung with these facilites."
But all of that will soon change. The firework company is planning to move to an old Delphi facility on Larchmont in Howland. The main offices and most of the warehousing will be housed in 670-thousand square feet of space. Weimer says, "When you're all under one roof its much easier to work together and certainly the warehousing function is giong to be night and day from what we're experiencing."
The city of Youngstown will lose the income tax revenue from about two hundred employees. Thirty-five workers will remain to run the wholesale operation. The Diamond Sparkler manufacturing facility will also stay.
Mayor Jay Williams says its tough to lose that revenue, but he understand the decision. Williams adds, "It's a company we will continue to support. It's a company we will continue to work with understanding that they have to make decisions that are good for business. We will continue to have a relationship with that company."
The company hopes to be in its new location by the end of the year.
