YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A man convicted of the murder of a 23-year-old has been sentenced.

Marcus Rutledge had been facing an aggravated murder charge, but in March agreed to a plea of involuntary manslaughter for his role in the murder of 23-year old Darrick Hall.

On Friday, during his formal sentencing, Hall's mother made heart-felt plea to the court.

"Your honor, I was told he was shot 23 times. There's no excuse for that, no excuse. None," Hall's mother Natarasha Lee Gilliam said. "He should not get away with it. My son is not here. He should not be breathing at all."

Twenty-five-year old Marcus Rutledge looked on as Gillam told the judge what it was like waking up early in the morning October 4th, 2009 to find out that her son had been killed.

Hall was shot at North Avenue and Arlington Street.

Gillam asked Judge James Evans for a sentence that will be beneficial to Hall's family.

The felony charge of involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 13 years in prison. Rutledge was sentenced to six.

Another suspect in the case, Earl Charity, III has yet to go on trial.
