28 to life for teens convicted of Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Two Youngstown teenagers will spend the next 28 years to life in prison for killing another teen.
Deandre McCrary and Rayshawn Royal were back in the same court room Wednesday where just the day before a jury found them guilty of murder.
Family and friends of the defendants cried out as the sentence was read.
Sixteen-year-old Deandre McCrary and now, 18 year-old Rayshawn Royal will spend 28 years to life in prison. Both showed no emotion as the sentence was read but each made a short apology before the sentence was announced.
"I just want to say, I respect the verdict that they came back with." said Royal. "I'm sorry for what the Adkins' had to go through and the situation."
After only three hours of deliberations, a jury found both boys guilty for the shooting and killing of 16-year-old Brandon Adkins last summer. Both were convicted as adults of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, each with a gun specification.
The mother of Adkins spoke on how it's not only her and the defendant's family that are suffering, but the community from ongoing gun violence.
"I hope that the kids in this community have learned a lesson," said the victim's mother Irene Adkins. "When you live by a gun and use them foolishly there are great consequences."
Even the Defense Attorney for McCrary showed emotion when talking about the violence. "Where do these kids just grab guns and kill each other, I don't know," said Attorney Anthony Meranto. "It scares me bringing up children."
McCrary and Royal are eligible for parole after 28 years. Sixteen-year-old McCrary will be separated from the rest of the inmates, but Royal, who's 18, will have no special treatment.
