Ohio's 3rd, largest casino set to open in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The new casino in Ohio's capital city is opening to the public.
The $400 million Hollywood Casino Columbus opening Monday is expected to draw 3 million visitors annually. The 475,000-square-foot facility owned by Penn National Gaming Inc. includes about 3,000 slot machines, a poker room and four restaurants.
It's the third and largest of 4 casinos approved by Ohio voters.
It's also the one that will have the most direct competition initially. The casino west of downtown is roughly 10 miles from Scioto Downs, Ohio's first horse racing track to get slots-like gambling machines.
The casino's general manager has said he's not concerned about the competitive environment because he believes there's a deep market in the Columbus area.
Casinos in Cleveland and Toledo opened previously. Cincinnati's casino debuts next spring.
