YSU hosts sixth annual youth bridge building competition

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A youth-oriented bridge building competition returns at Youngtown State University.
The sixth annual Mahoning Valley Miniature Bridge Building Competition is being held Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
Students on 36 teams from high schools throughout Mahoning and Trumbull counties are participating in the design and construction of a balsa-wood bridge, followed by a load testing.
The goal of the competition is to promote civil engineering as a career option to students.
The competition has been organized and sponsored since 2008 by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Youngstown State University, the Mahoning and Trumbull County Engineer's Office, and MS Consultants Inc.
