Facebook rumors of Hermitage child abduction prove false
HERMITAGE, Pa. - Rumors of a child abduction at a garden center known for its Easter display at this time of year have proven false.
A Facebook post circulating the social media site alleged that a man attempted to abduct a "friend's son" and walk out of Kraynak's Nursery and Garden Center with the boy under his arm until he was tackled to the ground and escaped without the boy.
Police Chief Brian Blair told 21 News in an email that the man was actually pulling the boy out of the path of a car.
"The guy, with his family from out of town, thought he was saving the kid's life by keeping him from getting run over," Blair said in the email.
The chief said the man grabbed the boy when the car the boy was standing behind started.
It is unknown how many times this information was shared and viewed via Facebook.
Kraynak's is a popular spot for families this time of year because of an annual Easter display.
