Youngstown school superintendent proposing the closing of some schools
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown City School Superintendent Connie Hathorne is proposing to close some school buildings and making changes at others.
This superintendent's plan would close three schools and reconfigure others.
Dr. Hathorn says the plan is needed because of continuing declining enrollment and because of the number of schools in academic distress, they must find ways to reduce costs.
The resolution would close or re- purpose P. Ross Berry, Wilson and Volney Rogers middle schools. University Project Learning Center would close and programs there would move to Wilson.
P. Ross Berry could become the district's new administration building and Volney could become what the plan calls a "choice school."
The plan would be implemented in time for the start of the next school year this fall.
Coming up at 11, Matt Stone will tell you what the board decided to do and have reaction to the plan.
