WARREN, Ohio - The Safety-Service Director in Warren has confirmed an extension for a federal grant that would help prevent layoffs at the Warren Fire Department.

Enzo Cantalamessa said that the extension of the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant grant will allow the city to utilize the $1.5 million left until May 2014.

Fire fighter layoffs had been originally planned if the city could not receive the funding.  Nine notices had been sent out.
