NEW VERNON TWP., Pa. - People driving along I-79 in Mercer County may have seen a tower of flame and smoke Monday afternoon.

More than likely it was from a fire at the Stoneboro Recycling facility on Billy Boyd road.

Stoneboro Fire Department officials tell 21 News that a spark from a welder's torch set fire to a pile of tires, car parts, appliances and other materials.

Workers used a front end loader to pull the debris apart so firefighters could gain access to the flames. It took them about an hour to get the flames under control.

No one was injured fighting the fire.
