Officials with the city of Youngstown say the plan to demolish Borts Pool and the surrounding facilities later this month.

Youngstown Parks director Bob Burke said the pool, which was last used in 2008, became too expensive to repair. Burke said when filled the pool would leak "close to 30,000 gallons a day."

He also said since its closure more than six years ago the pool and surrounding area has become rundown and is covered in graffiti.

Burke said the pool was built in 1933, but it is not the oldest part of the property on N. Belle Vista Avenue, as the baseball field was constructed in 1925. Burke said the field will not be part of the demolition work.

The area will be used as green space for the city once demolition is complete.
