YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - How changing neighborhood designs can help keep children healthy was discussed at a special workshop in Youngstown on Thursday.

Mark Fenton, a national public health and transportation consultant, addressed a gathering of teachers, counselors and youth advocates about supporting new approaches to youth development at the Davis Center in Mill Creek Park.

"So, I'm hoping people walk away today saying, 'I've got to be a voice for change. I've got to be the person who shows up at a local planning meeting and encourages the sidewalks, the bike lanes, that tries to slow the traffic in neighborhoods, so kids can walk to school again'," said Fenton.

Fenton added that the right planning can have a positive impact on health, the economy and the environment.

The workshop was sponsored by the Swanston Charitable Fund.
