If you're looking for a family-fun way to ring in the New Year, here's what you need to know about First Night Youngstown and First Night Canfield.

It's the last night of 2014 and the first night of the New Year. What better time to check out downtown Youngstown if you haven't visited in a while and bring the kids.

First Night Youngstown has 13 family-friendly venues this year, including ice skating, swimming and the Oh Wow! Children's Center.

To get in you'll need to be wearing an admissions button which can be purchased ahead of time at a number of businesses, or the any of the venues on News Years Eve (cash only.)

Kids 12 and under are free. Adults are $10. Seniors, students and members of the military are $5.

To make getting around easy, WRTA will provide shuttles from venue to venue.

"We have fireworks at 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. sponsored by the Debartolo Corporation so you can come out with your kids from 4-9:00, see the fireworks, take them home to grandma or the baby-sitter and come back out and have a great time," said Samantha Turner with First Night Youngstown.

Some Youngstown city streets will be closed to accommodate the celebration.

  • East Federal Street from Central Square to Champion
  • West Federal Street from Central Square to Phelps
  • Market Street from Central Square to Boardman
  • Wick Avenue from Central Square to Commerce

At First Night Canfield families can also enjoy a variety of entertainment. New this year are Princesses and a video gaming bus.

"It's a big bus that has been transformed to a gamers dream world. There's tons of big screens inside and the kids can go in and play until their hearts content," said Sarah Drokin with First Night Canfield.

First Night Canfield begins at 5:00 p.m. at the gazebo on the green. Admission is free for kids 18 and under. Adults will need a button, which is $10 and can be purchased at several locations.
