New charges face Kinsman man convicted of Purple Heart plate forgery

MADISON TWP, Ohio - A Kinsman man who cried in court as he was being sentenced for tampering with his military records to obtain Purple Heart license plates, faces new charges of forgery and fraud.
An arrest warrant has been issued out of Madison Township, Lake County, Ohio for 34-year-old Keith Chandler.
Madison Township Police Chief Leonard Del Calzo told 21 News that Chandler is accused of fraudulently attempting to obtain insurance money to perform construction work on a local church.
Chandler allegedly forged a document as part of the scheme.
Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald Rice sentenced Keith Chandler to 90 days in jail in March after the former U.S. Marine was found guilty of forging papers and tampering with records to qualify for Ohio license plates reserved for wounded military veterans.
Judge Rice granted Chandler privileges to go to work during his jail term. It was five days after his sentencing that he allegedly committed the crimes in Madison Township.
Chief Del Calzo says that the warrant for Chandler has a pickup radius that only includes counties that are adjacent to Lake County.
Trumbull County is separated from Lake County by Ashtabula and Geauga Counties. Unless Chandler is found and arrested within the pickup radius or turns himself in, it remains to be seen if he will be prosecuted in Madison Township.
However, when he was sentenced in Trumbull County, Chandler was placed on probation for five years. Trumbull County authorities could decide to investigate if Chandler has violated the terms of his probation because of the charges in Lake County.
Chandler bonded out of the Trumbull County jail on Thursday after filing an appeal of his conviction in the Purple Heart plate case.
