Parents, athletes and voters, sounded off Wednesday at a district meeting on what should be done to bring the stadium up to code for handicapped patrons.
Making improvements to the stadium would cost at least $200,000 to $225,000. It's a far cry from the estimated $1.7 million price for a new stadium at the school's campus.
Renting another field would cost $1,000 to $2,000 per home game. It's estimated that could cost up to $10,000 depending on the number of home games scheduled.
Some parents wish the issue was brought to them sooner.
"They should have been coming to us a little bit more forward like they are now," Cyndi Williams said, Brookfield football parent. "We could have started fundraising for this last year if we would have known about it."
No solution is off table, but the district faces a three month deadline and a daunting fundraising dilemma. At a minimum seating, parking, paved accessibility in front of the stands must be updated.
The Cafaro Foundation gifted $50,000 and it hopes its donation will set the tone for others to do the same.
A complaint filed with the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights in 2014 triggered the mandate to make changes. The district claims it does not know who filed the complaint.
