Authorities blame a man from Hermitage for a $760,000 theft that forced a Lawrence County car dealership to close its doors. Now that man faces criminal charges.

New Wilmington Police arrested Forty-eight-year-old Jeffrey Michael Huey on Tuesday on eight charges including theft, receiving stolen property, using deceptive business practices and tampering with records.

According to police, the owner of the former New Wilmington Motors hired Huey in 2009 to manage the East Neshannock Avenue car dealership which sold new Chrysler, Dodge and Ram Truck vehicles.

Huey was fired in December 2012 after the owner says he uncovered several accounting discrepancies at the dealership.

A subsequent police investigation found evidence that Huey would overstate revenues to the dealership in order to boost his bonuses which amounted to $608,383 during the nearly four years he managed the dealership.

Investigators also accuse Huey of withholding proper sales information from his salesmen, preventing them from knowing what their correct commissions should have been.

Police also say they found evidence that more than $52,000 was misappropriated through fraudulent credit card transactions.

Huey is also accused of violating Pennsylvania's Board of Vehicles Act by allegedly using an unlicensed dealer to sell Dodge Challengers in Ohio.

An accountant has determined that Huey's alleged actions cost business owner Gary Butch a minimum of $764,635.

Although there is no evidence that customers were defrauded, police say that New Wilmington Motors suffered financial difficulties as a result of the financial loss and was sold in 2014. The business is no longer a Chrysler dealership.

Huey was arraigned before a district magistrate who set bond at $100,000.  His next hearing is scheduled for July 2.
