KENT, Ohio (AP) - The president of Kent State University has proposed more than tripling the school's endowment to provide more student scholarships and add faculty positions.

Beverly Warren says she'd like to take the endowment from its current level of $118 million to $500 million, a goal she acknowledges is aggressive and can't be reached overnight.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1JAy63M ) Warren said in a speech Wednesday the school has done a good job focusing on construction projects but also needs to boost scholarships.

She says the school also needs to create more endowed professorship positions.

Kent State is above the endowment median for colleges and universities nationally.
