Sharon Police and Schools prepare for possible armed intruder

When the school year starts back up again, Sharon City Schools will be better prepared if faced with an active shooter.
The Sharon Police Department and Sharon City School District have teamed up to bring A.L.I.C.E. Instructor Training to Sharon High School.
A.L.I.C.E., which stands for Alert, Lock-down, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate, helps individuals prepare for an active shooter.
The A.L.I.C.E. Institute says it is important for staff and students to know how to respond in an emergency situation because officers may not be present when an active shooting begins.
The training is taking place Monday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 14 in the Sharon High School Library.
Chief Gerald Smith of the Sharon Police Department says, “This training helps school officials and staff know what to do in an emergency situation. Locking down is not enough.”
Chief Smith said individuals will be participating in different scenarios involving emergency situations, even using air-soft guns.
30 people are participating in A.L.I.C.E. training, including officers, nurses and school officials.
