WARREN, Ohio - Sources confirm to 21 News that remains found near an Ashtabula County home last month, are those of a missing Warren woman.

On Wednesday night, the mother of 18-year-old Alesha Bell, asked to speak with 21 News Anchor Bob Black exclusively about her daughter who disappeared in July.

“I never expected anyone to do anything like this to my daughter,” a sobbing Tiffany Knepper told Bob.

Family, friends and neighbors gathered outside Knepper’s home trying to comfort her after she received news from police that her daughter’s remains were found in a fire pit in Roaming Shores, Ashtabula County.

Tiffany Knepper says she didn't know the relationship between her daughter and James Brooks, who was arrested on drug charges and abuse of a corpse.  He once lived in the same Warren neighborhood.

“I heard he was threatening her… threatening to do something to her family. The rest I don’t know,” Knepper told Bob Black.

Alesha’s mom doesn't believe Brooks acted alone.

“He wasn’t the only one. I don’t believe he was the only one. He didn’t do this by himself,” stated Knepper.

She remembers the last time they spoke. “She was going to stay with me and her son and watch movies. But she never came back,” said Alesha’s mom. “You always believed she’d come back. I don’t believe she’s not coming back now.”

Earlier Wednesday, Bell's mother was visited by Miriam Fife, who until her retirement earlier this year was the volunteer victim-witness advocate with the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff will hold a press conference at 10 a.m., to officially announce that they have identified the remains discovered during the execution of a drug warrant on the home where James Brooks had been living.

Investigators say that Brooks has admitted spending time with Alesha Bell in Warren on the day she was last seen.

A couple from Farrell, Pennsylvania told 21 News that their daughter, Jasmaine Smith, was also known to have contact with Brooks.

Smith has been missing since June 5th.
