Upgrades coming to the Lily Pond at Mill Creek MetroParks

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Mill Creek MetroPark's Lily Pond will undergo some upgrades in the near future.
Money has already been allocated to build a boardwalk off a portion of the historic trail near the pond.
Steve Avery, Planning and Natural Resources Director of Mill Creek MetroParks, says the project will also include the construction of an observation deck.
Avery says the lily pond will be closed to the public during construction, which is expected to begin in October.
The pond is a popular spot for nature lovers who come enjoy the birds, fish and turtles.
The pond has also been used for ice skating when temperatures became cold enough to freeze the surface of the water.
The park board is expected to open contractor's bids on the project next week.
Improvements will also be made to the existing parking lot.
