WARREN, Ohio - An Ashtabula County man is facing several charges in a high speed chase with a trooper. The pursuit lasted nearly 13 minutes on Friday night, ending in a Warren neighborhood.

"They're dangerous for the officers, they're dangerous for the people that choose to flee, they're dangerous no matter what," Lt. Brian Holt said, with the Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Theotis Sanders, 38, of Roaming Shores, refused to pull over and instead took off, traveling northbound up state Route 45 in Champion.

Four law enforcement agencies were involved in the chase that traveled nearly 15 miles before it was over. At one point, the trooper clocked his speed at 90 miles per hour.

The trooper eventually used his patrol car to make contact with the Cadillac, disabling it at Parkman Road and Union Street.

After a short foot pursuit, Sanders was tasered to the ground.

He appeared in Warren Municipal court on charges of felonious assault, failure to comply, among other charges Monday. His bond was set at $75,000, and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

The Ashtabula County man has a criminal drug history. Sanders claims he took off to avoid arrest on three active warrants.

It's the second high speed chase in the Valley involving the Warren post of the Patrol this month.

"We have to do our job, but at the same time, to put all of the risk involved including damaging police cars, potentially injuring troopers and police officers, it's all very unnecessary," Lt. Holt said.
