NILES, Ohio - A man accused of shoplifting at the Eastwood Mall also turned out to be a sex offender who allegedly failed to register his address.
A city police officer patrolling the mall on Wednesday was called to Sears after learning that the loss prevention officer had been struck by a man attempting to leave the store without paying for a $1,300 Samsung TV.
Police and mall security subdued the suspect, who has been identified as William J. Shaw, 24, of Warren.
Investigators learned that there were several warrants for the arrest of Shaw, including one from the Trumbull County Sheriff for failing to register as a sexual offender.
In 2013, Shaw was convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Earlier this month an arrest warrant was issued for Shaw who allegedly violated terms of his probation.
Shaw was booked into the Trumbull County Jail. He appeared in Niles Municipal Court on a robbery charge on Thursday, where bond was set at $7,500.
