YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The hunt is over for Youngstown's most wanted man.

Fugitive Luis Cruz Ramos was shot in the leg by a member of the task force that has been looking for him since early Thursday.

According to the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, Cruz Ramos was spotted walking near the 200 block of Lowell Avenue Friday afternoon, that's on the city's south side.  And that's when police gave chase.

James Colyar lives in the area and witnessed the chase, "I was at home and heard this commotion.  And I seen the suspect running through my backyard.  I seen some task force chasing him and all I heard was gun shots."

Authorities say Cruz Ramos was carrying a handgun and pulled that handgun on officers.

A task force member trying to apprehend Cruze Ramos fired a shot, wounding him in the leg about a block south of where he was first spotted.

Pete Elliott is the U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio, "We had information that this individual was in the area.  We stayed on it, the investigators on this case never quit.  They spotted him and gave foot chase to him.  He pulled a gun on them and our guy shot back.  So good guys one, bad guys zero."

Cruz Ramos, was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital where his condition is listed as stable.

The 30-year-old suspect had been the subject of a massive manhunt since early Thursday after he fled a traffic stop in Campbell and led authorities on a pursuit.

During the chase, the van driven by Cruz Ramos ran into Campbell police cruiser.

When the suspect was forced to abandon his van on I-680, he fired a shot into the windshield of a Youngstown Police cruiser.

Cruze Ramos, who was being sought for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Puerto Rico, faces two additional charges of felonious assault stemming from Thursday's chase, and will likely face even more charges from the city of Campbell.
