Bail bondsmen typically go after suspects who are a no show in court, and in Ohio the bail bondsmen must be licensed.
But on Friday in Austintown, what was described as a shootout between a bail bondsman and a suspect, ended with a twist.
Not only did the suspect James L. Foster of Niles, who was wanted for theft and driving under suspension get nabbed, but Austintown Police found one of the men working for Bad Boyz Bail Bonding, LLC was also wanted on an active arrest warrant for having no operator’s license, speeding and for failing to show up to court three times.
That employee of Bad Boyz Bail Bonding is 31-year-old, Daniel Day. Day is now held on no bond in the Trumbull County Jail and will appear in Brookfield Court on Thursday morning for trial at 9:00am.
The arrests happened after gunfire erupted during a car chase that ended in a foot pursuit on Silica Road and North Turner Road on Friday.
Several people living in the area along with one of the bondsmen called police.
Now Austintown Police Detectives are trying to sort it all out. They have recovered at least one weapon, and have done gunshot residue tests on all parties.
And there are claims that none of people in the fleeing car had weapons.
Phillip Lambert of Bad Boyz Bail Bonding claims he was fired upon by the suspect car and that's when he fired three to four shots back.
We do know that there is no law saying a bail bondsman can carry a weapon, however, just like a regular citizen if they have a conceal carry permit they are allowed to protect themselves.
