LIBERTY TWP, Ohio - A Liberty Township man who was given a chance to work off his jail sentence by wearing a sign admitting he was a thief is back in jail again.

43-year-old Gregory Davenport was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on March 31, just eight days after he was interviewed by local reporters as he walked up and down Belmont Avenue wearing a sign that read in big red letters, “I am a thief I stole from Walmart”.

Davenport had promised Girard Municipal Judge Jeffrey Adler that he would wear the sign eight hours a day, for ten days in front of the same Walmart where he had been caught shoplifting.

Davenport agreed to wear the sign acknowledging his crime instead of spending thirty days in jail.

According to court records, Davenport allegedly stole again on March 26. Judge Adler tells 21 News it was the same Walmart where he was caught shoplifting earlier.

Davenport was booked into jail on charges of theft and a probation violation and arraigned on Monday.

His bond is set at $10,000.

Davenport's next court hearing before Judge Adler is set for April 28
