Poland neighborhood seeks help with flooding problems
A solution to flooding problems that have plagued a Poland Township neighborhood for decades can't come soon enough.

POLAND, Ohio - A solution to flooding problems that have plagued a Poland Township neighborhood for decades can't come soon enough.
Images captured last year show just a portion of the flooding problems that occur, sometimes several times a year, along Cobbler's Run in the Canterbury Creek Development.
"Last year we got hit in April and then twice in the same week in June for insurance damages between the three of over $30-thousand," said Jack Walters who lives in the development.
Their main concern isn't the cost but, the safety of those inside the community.
Residents say there is only one way in and one way out of the development.
They fear if there is an emergency, first responders will not be able to get through the water that has flooded the roadway for hours in the past.
Local officials say they've done all they can to help alleviate the problem. They're now calling for emergency action at the state and federal level.
A meeting was organized Thursday night by neighbors who invited state and federal lawmakers.
Officials with the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District were also in attendance.
They walked the property earlier Thursday and said there are potential solutions. But, funding remains a problem.
"There may have to be something you have to do with some form of legislation that would ameliorate the fact that because its a private development that it would allow someone like the Army Corps of Engineers to come in there, as a public hazard and as a public emergency to help remediate this," said Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti to state and federal lawmakers.
