YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Five drivers were arrested Friday night during three sobriety checkpoints in Mahoning County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with the Youngstown Police Department, conducted one checkpoint in Youngstown and two in Austintown.

The Youngstown checkpoint was conducted at Mahoning Avenue and Belle Vista from 9:30 p.m. Friday until 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

Officers arrested four drivers during the west-side checkpoint, but none of the arrests were for OVI.

Instead, police say drivers were taken in on charges of driving under suspension, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, and refusal to sign a citation.

Police also issued five citations for offenses including possession of marijuana and street racing.

State troopers, meanwhile, conducted OVI checkpoints that night at 1051 S. Raccoon Road and 4545 New Road in Austintown.

The first checkpoint ran from 10:00pm to midnight and the second was in operation from 1:00am to 3:00am.

Troopers says one OVI arrest was made, and two drivers were given court summonses for driving under suspension.  Three citations were also issued, including one for drug abuse.

Police officers and members of OSHP's OVI Task Force conducted saturation patrols during all three checkpoints.

Both the Youngstown Police and OSHP say they are planning more sobriety checkpoints for the future.
