YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - You don't have to go far to find someone who has heard about the U.S. race for president, but halfway around the world Chinese students say Clinton and Trump are household names.
"Hillary, Hillary is my idol for many years," said one visiting student from China.
"I think Trump is a successful businessman," said another.
In fact, the U.S. election is peaking so much interest 23 students from Taiwan and China have traveled across the world to see it in action themselves. Spending a day in Cleveland to see the RNC close up, taking political science classes at YSU, and watching the convention unfold on TV.
"Trump talks alot about China. China is a big part of our politics, international relations, trade. all these things. So, having students from China and Taiwan here to see how they're taking this is fascinating," said YSU professor Dr. Paul Sracic.
When it comes to Clinton or trump, the Chinese students are split on who they support.
"Clinton is my idol but I would choose trump. because he has many (inaudible) so he can do some government business," said Dong Min.
"I would like to support Hillary because I heard that trump is distinguished in many fields for example he is distinguished to immigrants and racial," said Virginia Fang.
Students say when the trip is over they'll go home to a very different political culture, but right now, the US election of 2016 is an experience they'll never forget.
