WARREN, Ohio - Two people are in custody in Warren on charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run accident last weekend.
The two defendants are the alleged driver of the hit skip vehicle and a passenger.
29-year old Daniel Waggoner and 27-year old Michele Smith, both of Liberty Township, are in the Trumbull county jail and will be in court on Friday.
Waggoner is accused of being the driver that struck and killed 61-year old Paul Rose of Warren as he was crossing Route 4-22 Saturday night.
Waggoner has been charged with failing to stop after an injury-accident, falsification and tampering with evidence.
State Troopers say the arrests came three days after they had located the damaged car at Waggoner's residence in a Belmont Avenue trailer park.
"On Monday afternoon we did find the car, and through the course of evidence on the vehicle and some other things we were able to conclude that Mr. Waggoner was in the fact driving,” said Lt. Brian Holt of the State Highway Patrol post in Trumbull county.
Troopers charged Smith with a felony. "We charged Michele Smith with falsification. As a result of our investigation we were able to determine that she was in fact in the vehicle at the time of the crash," Holt said.
A candlelight vigil is being planned for Saturday in memory of the victim.
The vigil will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot next to the Family Dollar, 2430 Youngstown Road.
