Authorities identify victim from weekend crash in Youngstown

The Mahoning County Coroner's office has released the name of the person killed in a one car accident on Youngstown's East Side Sunday.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Mahoning County Coroner's office has released the name of the person killed in a one car accident on Youngstown's East Side Sunday.

The accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when the car struck a utility pole on Bennington Avenue at McGuffey Road.

The car shattered upon impact. The one person in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Coroner and Forensic Pathologist Dr. Joseph Ohr tells 21 News that the victim has been identified as 28-year-old John Cruz-Carino.

A Youngstown police officer who was investigating the crash was when he came in contact with a live electrical wire.

Sgt. Bill Ward was admitted to the hospital for treatment of burns, but has since been released.
