YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Monday is Columbus Day, a national holiday, and that means there are some closings and adjustments for today.

All local, state and federal government offices are closed, and that includes courts.

Some local school districts, such as Sharon and New Castle are closed today, but most college universities are open.

WRTA buses in Mahoning County are running normally and trash pick up in Youngstown and Warren will remain the same.

There is no mail delivery or pick up today and most banks are closed as well.

Columbus Day is celebrated in both North and South America and it is meant to officially celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492.

Columbus Day first became an official state holiday in Colorado in 1906, and became a federal holiday in the United States in 1937.
