YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Monday on Youngstown's east side for a factory that will make what developers say is the first and only self-chilling can.
The Joseph Beverage Complex is planned for property on Lane Avenue, between Oak Street and Himrod Avenue.
Production buildings are expected to be completed by summer with full operation by 2018.
The factory, once fully operational, is expected to house about 250 jobs.
Joseph Company International is the developer of the Chill-Can®, which has a built in Heat Exchange Unit which contains the technology necessary to chill the drink in under a minute.
By pressing the button at the base of the can, the patented technology activates Co2 that chills the beverage.
The Joseph Company will partner with Youngstown State University to provide internships and job opportunities to YSU students, according to Mayor John McNally.
