GREENVILLE, Pa. - A Mercer county woman could face charges after eighteen neglected dogs were removed from her Greenville home.
Authorities were called to the home on Liniger Road to check on the welfare of the woman who lives there.
Inside they discovered the house and 18 dogs invested with fleas and covered in animal waste.
"The conditions were basically deplorable. The dogs were living in a home that had electric shutoff and no running water," said Richard Pearsall, President of the Mercer County Humane Society.
The dogs, mostly Corgi's range in age from 2 to 15. Seven of the dogs were taken to Penn-Ohio Veterinary Services where they were cleaned and given health check-ups.
"I've been able get three to go to a Corgi rescue in Iowa, I have three in foster and I've already adopted out one," Pearsall said.
The remaining dogs, including two that are partially paralyzed, are being cared for at the Stray Haven animal rescue in Greenville.
"We're in the midst of treating them all currently and just trying to get them well until we put them in a foster home," Siera Gross, owner of Stray Haven said.
Pearsall believes that the home owner probably had good intentions in the beginning. "And then due to some type of life circumstances things just sort of spiraled out of control,".
No formal charges had been filed, but the case is under investigation.
