PITTSBURGH - Monday, the Pittsburgh International Airport became the first airport to offer shopping and dining services at the airport to those not flying.
"I'm excited they put all these shops here. I hope this helps," said Connie Hall of Ligonier, Pa.
"I get to go on the other side of the gate with him and we get to have some lunch, maybe do some shopping if we want and spend some more time with him before he has to leave. It's perfect for us today," said Natalie Saxey of Austintown.
You first will have to go to the My Pitt Pass counter and provide a government ID; a passport or a drivers license. They will then give you an airside pass.
You'll then go through the same TSA checkpoints those flying out of the airport have to go through.
After you make it through airport security, you then have access to all of the shopping and dining services the airport has to offer.
"We've been hearing from the community for a long time that they want airside access. It's very important to the community. This airport is a point of pride for people. They want to be able to come out and enjoy the airport, shopping, and dining. There's a lot of shopping that's available there and not available anywhere else in the city. For us it's about customer service, it's about serving the community," said Bob Kerlik with the Pittsburgh International Airport.
The program is free and will be offered Monday through Friday, 9-5.
You'll be allowed to bring one small carry on type bag with you throughout the airport.
