Youngstown police arrested two New York City men just minutes after a robbery of the Downtown Circle Store in Youngstown.

A Youngstown Police officer says he arrested Maurice Portis, 32, and Charles Avitable, 35, on West Federal Street Friday night as they were on their way to board a Greyhound bus.

About five minutes before, police were called to the Downtown Circle where the clerk said that he was put in a choke hold and then thrown to the ground as he tried to stop two men who announced they were taking a bottle of wine without paying for it.

One of the men claimed to have a gun in his backpack, according to the clerk.

When police arrested the two men about a block away, officers did not find a gun but say they had two bottles of wine.

Both suspects were booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated robbery.

Detectives plan to review surveillance video from the store.

You may remember that the Downtown Circle used to be operated by Amer Adi before immigration officials deported him to his native Jordan earlier this year.
