One of people's favorite parts about the 4th of July is the fireworks and this is the first summer since a new fireworks law took effect in Pennsylvania.

A trip to F&V Fireworks in Enon Valley for adults is something like a trip to a candy store for kids.

"The 4th of July is my favorite holiday," said Renee Minnemeyer-Climo.

Minnemeyer-Climo, with a group of family and friends, were loading up two shopping carts. A firework display is their holiday tradition, but for the first time, they don't need a permit to purchase the bigger fireworks.

"I love the fact that we can come down here and no longer have to pay $20 just to get into the store and buy all the fireworks that we want," said Minnemeyer-Climo.

Jeff Freezle is the owner of the shop and explains the new law.  "Before October you could go through and buy sparklers, snakes, snaps, all your novelties," said Freezle. "Since the new law came into effect you can buy your bottle rockets, roman candles, firecrackers, mortars, cakes, 500-gram stuff like that, that everybody has been wanting."

It's also legal to light them off in a yard as long as you're 150 feet from any home or business, and have permission of the property owner.

But, at check out it's 'buyer beware.'

"I just learned there is a downside and the downside is they are going to charge us a whole lot more tax," said Minnemeyer-Climo.

The law adds a 12% tax to the total, which already includes a 6% sales tax.

"It's catching customers a little off guard because now they're paying 18% in sales tax, instead of 6%," said Freezle.

It's a tax that could fizzle out the excitement of creating a bigger boom.
