The Mahoning County Coroner's office is investigating the death of a Hermitage man who was shot in Brookfield early Friday.

Jason Drummond, 24, died at Mercy Health in Youngstown a few hours after he was wounded.

Officers were called out after neighbors reported hearing shots at around 1 a.m.

After searching the area, police found a car on the 600 block of Brookfield Avenue.

Inside the car was Drummond, who had been shot in the head. Both the driver side and rear windows had been shot out.

Police say the shooting actually happened on Warren Sharon Road, but a woman who was in the car with Drummond got behind the wheel and drove to the Brookfield Avenue address.

Police found at least one shell casing on the 7800 block of Warren Sharon Road, just east of Yankee Run Golf Course.

Police Chief Dan Faustino says Drummond was first taken to Sharon Regional Hospital before being transferred to Mercy Health in Youngstown.

The chief says the victim has family members living in Brookfield.

Faustino says detectives are still working on finding a motive for the shooting and trying to identify a suspect.
