WARREN, Ohio - Valley residents who lost a loved one in the Vietnam War and those who just want to honor those who died will be stopping in Warren this week at a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington.

The portable monument, a three-quarter size replica of the original wall, is inscribed with the names of more than 58 thousand men and women who were wounded between 1957 and 1975, and ultimately died of their wounds.

The so-named “Wall That Heals” and the accompanying Mobile Education Center will be on display for four days from 11 a.m.Thursday, August 16 through noon Sunday, August 19 at Packard Park.

PARKING

  • Access to Packard Park will be altered in the following ways during the display:
  • Packard Music Hall lot, 1703 Mahoning Ave NW will provide free parking for The Wall That Heals.
  • South Entrance of Packard Park will be for handicap only.
  • North Entrance of Packard Park will serve as both the entrance and exit.

The change in park access will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14.

Access will return to normal on Monday, August 20 at 8:00 a.m.

The display honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the war in Vietnam.

Warren will be the only Ohio stop out of 38 sites chosen for the VVMF 2018 National Tour.

The 375-foot exhibit stands 7 ½ feet tall at its highest point and visitors will be able to make name rubbings of individual service members.

The 53-foot Mobile Education Center includes digital photo displays of “Hometown Heroes”, area service members whose names are on The Wall.

The In Memory program honors Vietnam Veterans who returned home and died as a result of their service.

Video displays teach the history and impact of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Opening Ceremony with Welcome Home Dedication.

Congressman Tim Ryan presenting Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins to any living U.S. veteran in attendance who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, regardless of location, from November 1, 1955 – April 30, 1975. These individuals represent over 7 million living Vietnam veterans and 9 million families of those that served.

Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 7 PM:

Women on the Wall and Purple Heart Events.

Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Noon:

Closing Ceremony with the Laying of the Roses and recognition of POW/MIA and Gold Star Families.
