Cougar, WA. - A man from Warren who has been missing since Thursday after his car was found at Mount St. Helens has been found safe.

According to NBC affiliate, KGW in Portland, Oregon, searchers found Matthew Matheny alive up on the flanks of Mt. St. Helens. A volcano rescue team found him in a ravine about three miles from where his car was parked.

He was taken by helicopter to an area hospital and is said to be severely dehydrated but in good spirits. His parents, Linda and Carney Matheny said Matt ate bees and berries to stay alive.

"The bees were after him the whole time he said, so he killed them and ate them. He found berries, never found water, but the berries must have had enough fluid to keep him going. He's scratched up, his feet are kind of a mess, flip flops broke, what he was doing, I'm going to wring his neck, what he was doing up there with flip flops I have no idea," said Linda Carney.

Officials said it does not appear Matheny has any life-threatening injuries. He's expected to stay in the hospital for observation but could be released soon.

The Matheny family wanted to thank all the volunteers and rescuers who worked tirelessly to help find Matt.
