A demonstration in support of immigrants detained at the Northeast Ohio Corrections Center ended in at least five arrests Monday afternoon.
Radial Church, Interreligious Task Force on Central America and Colombia, America's Voice Ohio and allies of all faiths held the demonstration outside the private prison, operated by CoreCivic, around 1 p.m.
The five demonstrators were arrested because they were blocking the entrance.
The groups said they were seeking to raise awareness about what they said are international corporations profiting off of so-called "civil" detention of "our immigrant brothers and sisters in Ohio."
"Our hearts cry out at the forced family separations taking place in our own communities due to workplace raids and deportations. We have been called to raise funds for bail/bond, for legal support, for home and utility support, for school supplies and food for families. We've been called to pray, and, we've been called to act," according to a press release from America's Voice Ohio.
The groups held the demonstration in light of two recent ICE raids conducted at the Corso's and Fresh Mark agricultural facilities in the Sandusky/Norwalk/Willard and Salem/Massillon/Canton areas.
More than 100 families were affected by these raids.

From the Fresh Mark raid, dozens of people were released from detention the following day.
Law enforcement cited "humanitarian reasons" necessitating release.
