SOUTHINGTON TWP. - Traffic was flowing again Tuesday morning after a Monday evening crash on U.S. 422 in Southington Township that left wires down on the road and sent two people to the hospital.
Troopers said it happened at 6:18 p.m. at the intersection of 422 and Anderson Anthony Road, closing both eastbound and westbound lanes of 422 until the early morning hours of Tuesday.
Troopers say Owen Q. Mclewis, 20, of Leavittsburg, was southbound on Anderson Anthony Road in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, while Michael R Homza, 54, of Mantua was eastbound on US 422 in a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta.
They said the two crashed after McLewis allegedly went into Homza's path and was struck, his vehicle overturning on its side.
His vehicle then hit a stop sign, while Homza's vehicle ran into an Ohio Edison utility pole, according to troopers.
They said an International Pro Star commercial tractor-trailer driven by Tony D. Boshell, 56, of Wyoming, Michigan then came through and took down the low-hanging wires.
The utility lines fell across both lanes of U.S. 422, closing the roadway.
Dispatchers said Champion police said they had to chase down the semi truck and escort it back to the scene.
Officials said the truck was not over the height limit.
Troopers said ODOT is redirecting traffic down S.R. 534 and S.R. 82.
Troopers said Homza and McLewis did not suffer any life-threatening injuries but were both taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The crash remains under investigation.
